Creating a Path to Inclusive Art

All ages participate in our programming, and we travel all over the state in a variety of settings. This is great in most cases, but can have some challenges as well.

In the vibrant world of art and design, Heijeu Arts is setting the stage for a more inclusive future with a focus on accessibility. Founded by artist Heidi Jeub, this organization thrives on creativity and community engagement, aiming to break barriers and bring art to everyone.

A New Era for Heijeu Arts

Rooted in rural innovation, Heijeu Arts has evolved from a series of artist-led projects into a nonprofit powerhouse, with the Tiny School of Art & Design leading the way. This mobile studio is not just about art; it's about bringing people together, regardless of their background or skill level.

Thanks to one of our board members, Keith, and some of our favorite artist friends, we learned so much about accessibility in terms of our programs. We want to not only make obvious changes and policies, but maybe think deeper about the creative opportunities to be more accessible.

The Accessibility Challenge

Despite their success, Heijeu Arts acknowledges the need to improve accessibility. Inspired by board member Keith and his experiences, the organization is committed to removing obstacles that prevent full participation in their programs. This includes addressing physical barriers, scheduling challenges, and the need for flexible transportation options.

Our Founder, Heidi Jeub, facilitated well planned community discussions around issues in government, education, and the arts. These events are fun, creative and innovative, bringing all the great ideas to the surface!

Innovative Solutions on the Horizon

Heijeu Arts is rolling out an ambitious game plan to enhance accessibility:

  1. Training Program: A year-long initiative designed to educate staff, artists, and partners on accessibility terms and empathetic practices.

  2. Accessibility Retreat: Bringing together community members, artists, and experts to brainstorm solutions for a more inclusive St. Cloud metro area.

  3. Accessibility Handbook: A comprehensive resource filled with insights and standard practices, beautifully illustrated, and available both digitally and in print.
