Our Board of Directors plays a vital role in these first years of our organization’s growth. We are committed to building a community-based organization with healthy, non-hierarchical governance.
This approach is a work in progress, and we invite individuals who understand both the traditional nonprofit governance model and how it can evolve to be more equitable, diverse, and inclusive.

Heijeu Arts is growing, and strong financial stewardship is essential to our mission. We’re seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven Treasurer to join our Board of Directors and help guide the financial health of our organization.
Treasurer Position Overview
The Treasurer is a key member of the Board who oversees financial management, ensures transparency, and supports the long-term sustainability of Heijeu Arts. This role partners closely with the Executive Director, financial contractors (bookkeeper/accountant) and Board Chair.
Financial Oversight
Review monthly financial statements and reports
Monitor budget performance and cash flow
Provide financial updates at board meetings
Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping
Compliance & Accountability
Oversee annual budgeting process
Support preparation of annual tax filings (e.g., 990)
Ensure compliance with state and federal nonprofit regulations
Strategic Support
Participate in financial planning and long-term budgeting
Assist with grant budgets and reporting
Help develop sustainable financial practices and policies
Board Leadership
Serve on the Executive Committee
Help strengthen board understanding of finances
Assist in reviewing contracts, proposals, or financial commitments
Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who:
Has experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping
Understands nonprofit financial principles (or is eager to learn)
Is organized, communicative, and proactive
Believes in the power of creativity, community, and arts education
Can commit 4–6 hours per month (more during budgeting or annual filings)
CPA or accounting background is helpful but not required.
